Peter Astriab is awarded the Outstanding Catholic Graduate of The Academy at Saint Mary for the 2018-2019 school year. He was recognized at the Newark Archdiocese Mass and Celebration with other exemplary eighth grade students.
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, the student recipients from around the Diocese of Newark joined Pastors, school advisory board chairs, principals, and their families. This award is conferred annually on an eighth grader from their Catholic elementary school in the Archdiocese of Newark who exemplifies Catholic values in word and deed, and displays superior academic achievement.
The celebrants of the Mass were Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., the Archibishop of Newark, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Nydegger, Ed.D., Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia. The awards were distributed by Dr. Margaret Dames, Ed.D., the Superintendent of Schools in the Newark Archdiocese and Secretary for Education. Also present was Sr. Patricia Butler, SC, Associate Superintendent of Elementary School Administration (Essex and Union Counties) and Sr. Marie Gagliano, MPF, Assistant Superintendent (Bergen and Hudson Counties).
